I'd see a doctor. Is this her first period? Often your first periods are weird and irregular, but I'd say 6 weeks is a bit too long to be normal. She may have an infection, or a cyst... if they're is any chance she has gotten pregnant it also could be a complication with that such as a miscarriage. I had one and I bled for weeks. In any case, a visit to the physician is no doubt the best thing to do, if nothing else to ease her worries.

I have something called Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome. One of the side effects is really long periods like this because the hormones get really out of balance. They are finding that it is a genetic thing that can manifest early on in a young girl, but I didn't start having issues until after I had my son.

However, if your cousin normally has regular periods, and suddenly this one came on, it probably is something else. Like most of the other postings I have seen here, she really needs to see a doctor because continued bleeding can lead to anemia, amongst other things.

Tell her to see a doctor. It could be nothing but it's better to get it checked out.

normally such things are caused by hormonal imbalances so what she has to do is have her homones balanced, probably go see a doctor and it also depends on age, has she just had an abortion things of that sort
