The takeover has changed nothing vey much..
Thailand has always been a safe place, and now with soldiers in the street I doubt if even the occassional theif will be operating so it's probably even safer than before.
Certainly all the Thai citizens seem very happy to be rid of the corrupt prime minister

I don't think so. It is almost never safe for an outsider to enter a country soon after a military coup unless they are really well-versed on the country's culture and the revolutionaries' ideologies.

yeah it is safe, seen as the king has given support to the military and everone respects him things should be fine and no blood was lost and people seem to be just talking pics of themselves and the soliders so yeah its fairly safe but wait a little just incase

You couldn't pay me enough money to go to Thailand. What sane resident of North America or Europe would go anywhere except Australia and New Zealand (or Europe or America)?
(Actually, I lied. If you have several hundred million dollars already deposited in my bank in my name, and I have to go to Thailand for only an hour or two I may consider it. I MAY.)

Why not. As long as you stay in the big cities where Thaksin wasn't popular to begin with. I would wait a few weeks to things to settle down.

Its safe to arrrive in Thailand, getting there is the worry, with all those terroists threatening to blow planes up.
