It was the custom in the days of Job that when you suffered a great loss you put on sack cloth and ashes. this was a sign to others that you were in mourning and were also showing humility. Another place you find this in the Bible is in the case of Jonah when he preached to the King of Nineveh. The King ordered all the people to put on sack cloth and ashes to show their repentance and humility before GOD.

He didn't feel like doing anything. He was pretty down about his life going downhill. His sons had died, his cattle plundered, and lambkins too. He just wanted to die. That's why he didn't apply for subsidized housing.

As well, he had a plague of boils. Who would want to walk around when they've got sores all over their body? 'twould be uncomfortable.
