The people at petsmart told me to put in 2 tablespoons of aquarium salt in my 10 gallon tank. The aquarium salt doesn't evaporate or dissolve. When I put the salt it, it stayed at the bottom of the tank, still visible like a mini rock. Will my guppy eat the salt and if so, will it hurt them????
Im concerned because I read somewhere that your not suppose to put salt in unless its dissolved or else itll burn their skin? HELP PLEASE!

I do the same. If your salt isn't dissolving it means you don't have enough water flow. Stir it around a bit. When you top off your tank because of evaporation, don't add salt. When you are changing water, add salt to the water you are adding to the tank, but not for the water that is left in the tank. (I buy 2 gallon jugs of spring water and add two level teaspoons of salt to the bottle and shake it up. I then use an old bottle to measure how much water to remove from the aquarium). Don't worry if there is slightly more salt in the tank. It will not harm the fish

Aquarium salt is beneficial to most fish and we recommend 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water so as not to hurt plants and snails. The aquarium salt helps the anacharis plant grow really well and your guppies will like to hide in it. Put salt in tank at initial setup and then don't add more until you make a 1/4 tank water change. Feed fish once a day sparingly only what can be consumed in 3-5 minutes and keep the temp at 80. Guppies and other livebearers like the PH at about 7.4+.

No not at all, salt kills all known germs on all types of fish, it is the only medicine I use on my fish and if they don't get better after that then I try bought mutti from the petshop. But putting salt into your tank, then you will find that the guppies actually swim through the salt and coat their skin, and yes the guppy will follow the salt down and peck at it all the time, you can even use salt in a fresh water tank.

Next time you need to add some salt back in you should dissolve it in a little cup of tank water before you add it. If the salt touches the fish or if they eat it before it dissolves it can actually burn them.

It will not hurt them one bit. You don't have to put salt in but it is a great tool to keep your guppies healthy. They may pick at it but ti is fine. It may take a while to dissolve. The salt is meant to help them.

Fresh water can contain up to 3% salt, fresh water fish need "SOME" salt, the salt will dissolve eventually.
