The purpose of family visits is not sex... it is to maintain family ties, which are proven to be a key factor in the success rate of an inmates rehabilitation. I feel very strongly that there should be provisions for family visits in every prison for any inmate who qualifies. Getting approved for family visits is not easy- there are some very strict guidelines that must be met by both the inmate and the family members wishing to visit, so it is not as if making them available in every facility is going to result in some huge change... except in the focus and attitude of the inmates.
Family visits are of great benefit to an inmates children, they offer a chance for some normal family interaction and that has been shown to promote the parent/child bond and to drastically ease the transition to normal day to day life after the parent is released.
The other factor is a Constitutional one- It is a matter of freedom of religion for the non-inmate spouse. There is no justification for forcing a married person to choose between losing normal marital intimacy or getting a divorce.
Married persons have a right to some degree of connubial life- not just sexual contact, but the small joys of sharing morning coffee and having ones back scratched- and to deny this right to someone who has chosen to honor the vows they made (You know, "For better or Worse... Til death do us part"... "What God has joined together, let no man tear assunder"?) is unspeakably vile.

Visiting family and friends are fortunately already allowed in our prisons, because 90% in there are coming back out, and the closer we can keep the family unit, the more successful will be the reintegration into our society of the ex-offender, and less recidivism.
Ex-offenders who enjoy gay sex do not need to repeat crimes to enjoy gay sex with other prisoners. There are plenty of free gay people out here to have sex with, and you can keep your freedom at the same time.
Russia allows wifes weekend conjugal visits every three months. We are one of the most punitive countries in the world when it comes to humanely treating our prisoners, and there my dear gentle reader, but for the grace of God, go you or I. What ye do to the least of thee, you do to me-Matthew 25:40.
Conjugal visits should be allowed. As a gay former prisoner, my reseach found 21% of straight men admitting to more than one adult homosexual experience. There is plenty of sex going on in prison. It may be healthier for our society to allow conjugal visits, because that way the down lows blacks and whites may be infecting less people with HIV when they get out. Since condoms are not allowed in prisons, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that you, your sister, mother, brother, father could become the next HIV statistic.
With African Americans males representing the most individuals incarcerated, and young black women being the largest group of individuals now being infected with HIV in America, what do you think is going on?
Those who oppose conjugal visits are not Christians, humane, and either are sadist, sexually inadeqate and frustrated, or support the spread of homosexuality and AIDS. Could their name be spelled Mr./Ms. Ignorant, Satan, or the DOC?
40 million people in our world now have AIDS; 20 million people in our world have already died of AIDS. 1 million people in America are now infected. When will we ever learn? By the grace of God, I remain HIV negative. Let us seek to be more compassionate to each other, forgive, and love one another. I believe a great teacher tried teaching us that 2,000 years ago.
Blessings and Peace to you all, even the haters!

I think that if I were in prison then I would want everyone around me to have conjagal visits......I don't want them getting frustrated and looking to me to become their "b*tch"

Definitely Not! It would then enable rapists, child abusers and everyone of that elk to participate. Our laws are far to lenient, corporal and capital punishment should never have been abolished for now we have no deterrents that adequately protect the public, only an increasing crime rate and rat *** lawyers who will always stand up to defend / do deals and fight to allow lunatics and hardened criminals back into society

They should not be allowed.
I have never understood why they were ever allowed in the first place. I thought these ppl were suppose to be being punished... in prison means kept away from things in free life. That includes sexual enjoyment, being with family and friends, being with your children, etc....

yes,but only for non-violent,including sexual crimes, offenders. these offenders should not be granted any civil rights as they forfieted their rights when they committed these acts. those that commit manslaughter should be allowed visits but only if it was in self defense.
