i'm 20 years old and i've been on birth control since i was 18. i'm taking the pill where u only get ur period 4 times a year. i take it the same time everyday like i'm supposed to, but when i finish the pills (usually on a saturday) i don't actually get my period until that following wednesday. (not trying to sound like i'm complaining about it, but it has both me and my mother a little concerned) just recently i started my period and for the first time in the past two years that i've been on the pill, the cramps i am getting are ungodly painful (its 3:30 am where i am right now im unable to sleep because it hurts that bad) ive been taking prescription-strength motrin, used a heating pad, and even tried asprin but nothing is working...so my questions are: 1) is it okay for me to be getting my period 4 days after i finish the pack rather than right after? and 2)what else can i do about these cramps?? id appreciate whatever answers u may have

Been years since I was on the pill, but I did use Norplant. But yes it can be normal for you to have a delay in your cycle. Most pills are on a 21 day cycle and the body is on a 28 day cycle. I posted a link to help explain that part.

The pain. Cramps are known as dysmenorrhea. At home treatment: Herbal teas, such as chamomile, mint, raspberry, and blackberry, may help soothe tense muscles and anxious moods. Exercise. Regular workouts decrease the severity of cramps. Empty your bladder as soon as you have the urge to urinate.

Meds you currently take: Start taking the medication the day before your period starts or at the first sign of pain, and continue taking it on a regular schedule for the number of days that your cramps usually bother you. Be sure to take with milk or food, as these medications can upset your stomach.

Something else I wanted to pass along to you is if after you have tried these and if they don't work. You can try a low dose muscle relaxer. Doan's or Backaid. All else fails contact your doctor.

There are actually ways to deal with the cramps. Yes, I see you've used the heating pad. It's best to stay away from caffiene when on your period. It causes the cramps the more severe. [I don't mean to sound perverted here but..] you can rub your pelvis right above your pubic area, and it usually helps calm them down for as long as you rub. Then there's drinking herbal or green teas. You can go for walks, or do exercises. For as uncomfortable as it sounds the more you move around, the less you'll cramp. Like going for a job will relieve your craps, though you may discharge more blood while doing so, you won't have the cramps. Hope this helps a little. As for the first question. It's fine. My sister hasn't had her period in a year from the birth control she's on, and he docter says it's totally fine, that she will be having one in the next year. Good luck. And hope everything turns out okay. && congradulations on the Kids. =]

Cramps are not normal
Cramps will happen with periods, regardless of birth control or not.(ie-so long as you have a period, even one per yr or less, it's still going to hurt, even if you're on birth control or not on birth control)...

For me, my cramps have not been so bad since my daughter's birth.
I was so bad before my pregnancy, that every period I had, I felt like I was going into labor (puking and diarrhea, green palor, numb hands/feet/arms/legs, inability to walk).

not to say getting pregnant is the answer!!! lol...most definitely not!
The answer is to tell your gyn, and not accept the answer that it's normal.
Cramps are not normal! It took a few gyns before I found one who knew what was going on.

Best bet would be Vicodin or OTC sleeping pills (one dose) plus pain reliever.
So long as you aren't allergic..I'd recommend Tylenol PM or Excedrin PM....with doc's recommendation in the AM, some anti-inflammatories should help with the cramps a bit.(naproxen or ibuprofen...don't mix those with the tylenol PM, but generally cramps calm down after12-24 hrs, so your best bet is to take what you need for the immediate situation until you can see your doc!)

Good luck!!!

These are the side effects or can say hormonal fluctuation caused by the Birth control pills These are the same complain until one stopped using the pills ;Frankly speaking the best way is stop taking these pills for few months till your body starts developing its own immune system and hormones ,Periods starting 4 days after stopping the pill is normal ,you should not worry about this .as i told you your body will not be same as what was few months back .And to reduce cramps trying drinking warm milk with honey and don't stop drinking plenty of water at times this should help .And i came across some one giving wrong advice there ,please one should not strain your body when it is in discomfort it will only cause stress try to relax .in fact this time your body is very weak .TRY TO CONSULT YOUR GYNECOLOGIST FOR A PROFESSIONAL OPINION :

Hey Sweetie! I'm sorry to hear about this. . I'm a guy, so i hope you don't mind me answering. I'm not a doctor, but you may need to go have it checked out just to make sure there's nothing wrong. I'm not tryin to scare you or anything, just tryin to help. If you don't wanna take the pill, You can go get a shot every 3 months, and i'm sure they have patches. I don't know tho. Like i said, i'm a guy, and i don't know alot about periods and cramps. The only periods i know about, are the ones that come at the end of this sentence. . . . . . . . Try to see a doctor sweetie..

It's normal for you to get your period any time during the placebo week or your week off active pills. I too get my period on the Wednesday after stopping pills. Most women won't get their period the next day. You are still protected from pregnancy at that point. So, yes it is okay to get your period at that time.

For the cramps, try exercise, a hot bath, sex or masturbation orgasms can reduce cramps.

The best thing is that you should go and meet your doctor i think this will help you dear. And also if you can please try to pray that God should intervene in your situation coz with God everthing is possible.
