i believe that the older they make the consensual age, the younger people are going to start having sex. i think, if they kept at what it is over there in London, the teenage sex rates will go down, because they dint feel obliged to be rebellious.
its all about rebellion. over here, in south Australia, the consensual age is 17. I'm only 13, but all the people i talk to are 14 and up, and they started having sex at a young age, because they found it a thrill to be rebellious, and break the law.
if there was no legal age, i think people would be less rebellious, because they think nobody cares.
also, when there is a legal age, they feel obliged to start having sex, at the consensual age of wherever they live. same with drinking and smoking.
hope this helped.

I don't really think there is a set age. Other answerers seem to think 18 is a good age. I think if you find someone you love, and you understand what love is then you are ready. Very few 15/16/17 year olds understand that. I thought i was in love at 14, but alas I wasn't and i'm very glad i did not sleep with that particular boy.

babies well that is a compleatly different story. You should not have sex till you can support a child. And you cannot support a child on your money from your burger king job. So i think that adds to the fact that kids should wait a little longer to have sex.

I live in the states, and lost my virginity at age 15 (back in the 80's), and my husband lost his at age 12. At that time, I'm sure adults felt that was too young, as I feel children of that age now are too young as well. If we all waited until we were mature enough to do so, most wouldn't start having sex until well after high school. Kids these days are especially less mature compared to just 10 or 20 year ago, at least I think. So, it's really not like a drinking age or driving age where you can set a standard. Most aren't ready, and most will still do it. All we can do is make sure when the kids start, that they understand what the risks involved are.

yeah well the thing is is how many 15 year olds or younger actually do what they are told to do? I have never heard of that being a law here in the states although even if it was I am sure that people would still break it, as far as being emotionally ready for sex I guess that depends on the individual, but young teenagers having babies when they can't even take care of themselves yet does seem kind of stupid

there is no magical age that someone is ready to have sex. if youngsters were having to pass a sex test they would probably not engage in intercourse until they were 40. it would be great if there were a class for teenagers to have to simulate marriage and family and then they wouldn't be in such a hurry. 16 is definitely too young most 16 year olds don't really understand anything about stds. today having a baby is the best thing that could happen, alot of these teens are going to be on their deathbed before they even get close to understanding what sex is really all about.

I truthful opinion is dat sixteen is way too young the best age to have sex is when you get married. Some teenagers feel that its right and they are ready to have sex with there bf or gf. But you have to decide when your ready and make sure you aware of the conciquences of getting pregnant or get STD or wat ever aslong as you no what your up against and your sure that you want to then its your choice.REMEBER ONCE ITS DONE YOU CANT TAKE IT BACK The point is to think wisely GOOD LUCk

Where I live it's legal at every age but only with consent from both partners. At least if people start early they should know the risks of unprotected sex.
Amofber - I don't see what does high school has to do with sex...some people never graduate from high school so they never should have sex.....?

I think each individual knows when they are ready.

I do not think any sixteen year old woman is old enough to have sex, and I do not think any sixteen year old man is old enough to have sex, simply because of the emotions that go with both incidentals and because of the responsibilities they could be faced with (ie: childbirth, childrearing and financial obligations to children resulting from teen sex).

I hope it helps. Good luck.

I preffer 18, because almost country also 18. After 18 you can make decision by yourself, means no need parents to approved you to do somethings, like make passport, marry open a bank account and others things.
