the color is black all around italy, but everything that is dark enough would do for people's dresses (blue, grey, brown, but very very dark).
and i never saw anybody cheering or clapping at a funeral in italy, don't know if maybe they do in some village, but usually everybody is sad and cries. in some villages in southern italy it used to be a tradition to shout and cry to show how desperate the family was because of the loss of their beloved, and there also used to be some old ladies that would be hired to act scenes of desperation like also pulling their hair off.

No it's not the guy who burnt Rome down but it is Italian for Black.

Having said that, they don't really dress all in black or decorate the streets with black flags like some cultures do. In fact, they applaud and cheer as a coffin is taken out from a funeral home. This is based on the idea of congratulating the person for a well spent life but at first it looks peculiar to people from other cultures used to crying and being quiet at a time like that.
