Buy your ink on the net, it's cheaper.
Example: Epson costs about 19.95 for black and 24.95 for color.
On the net, black is 1.99 and color is 2.99.
Hope this helps.

Because that's how they make money.
It's quite common to be able to buy a printer for less than what it costs for them to manufacture it. The ink is where they make money. Since most printers can only use ink from the same company, they can mark it up. The printer companies rather make less money off of the printer and make more money on the consumable ink. Most people don't buy printers very often so selling ink is very profitable.

It is still the same, you buy a printer for only one time, but if your ink used up you need to buy more. Then the ink will be expensive than the printer. You buy a printer for the components to print, how's the printing quality is actually depends more on the ink, original ink will be the best quality. So i think this is the reason. =)

When you buy a printer, you buy it one time.
You must, however, buy ink for it repeatedely, as long as you own that printer, for it to work.
Companies make money off of the ink. They figure if they sell their printers cheap, you will buy it because cost is the underlying reason anyone buys something, and if it's cheap enough, you will choose their brand of printer over the competitor's.
Hence, the reason ink costs so much, and printers are so cheap.
Good luck!

Because the Printer manufacturers like you to come back to buy cartridges for thier cheap printer. I got round this by using 'Continuous Ink' my carts work out at about 70 cents.

They rope you in with inexpensive printers, and keep you coming back again and again buying the ink. If there were different companies making cartridges for these printers, the price may be a little more competitive.

i came up with an idea, (which i've been doing for a long time), when the printer is out of ink, get a new printer. it's cheaper and you will have a new printer, so nothing would go wrong with it.
Or, otherwise, buy a laser printer

This is marketing.
A printer can last a long time, so if you sell one, the customer will not come back for another printer for a long time.
A ink will not last very long. So there will always be returning customer, when they finished their ink.

You may not be correct. There are printers like Epson Stylus which cost about Rs. 3000 but their cartridge cost is only Rs. 400. It gets even cheaper to Rs. 150 for re-filling for atleast twice.
