Charlotte in Sex and the City said at the start of the second series that it took half the length of time you went out with them for to get over someone - I doubt that there can be any such a precise formula.

I've heard that if your with someone for years it should take a month for every year your with them to get them out of your system, but lets be honest here it depends on how much you loved them, and the rule of thumb will be different for everybody. But this rule applied might at least stop you from going out and getting a rebound relationship.

alot of people don't get over some one else because it's no bodies business but yours if you want to say that the most i could have gotten out of my life at that time. each love has it's own set of who they were and what was, altering by blocking people out and printing over them in your mind will do what you want but many people i have known are always in some kind of a emotional tansformation of memories in one form or another and are really enormously encouraging to have them there i don't get over people, they just have to be a part of gathered information, not something to get over know that formulas are encrypted, u build to last forever so that fun was what you remembered about the good times of each.

if it`s a first love, sometimes you never get over them. you certainly never forget them. that isn`t a bad thing in it`s self, but be realistic, exes are exes for a reason. the chances are the reason you split up in the first place will always be there. be happy with someone else and not dwell on it. life`s to short for regrets. if you can`t get over it, make 1 last attempt to go for it, if it doesn`t work, move on

Well i think it takes as long as you let it.If your one of those people that sit there for weeks and cry and eat chocolate in your undies on the couch watching sopies well its going to take you longer but if your one of those people that get up and go out have fun let your hair out and not sob over something that you could not prevent than you will find your self over it in no time. TRY not to take advice of the TV as its not even close to reality.

Some you will never really get over and will carry a flame for them for ever.

However in my experience it's usually until the next person comes along and you get that rush. All is forgotten about the past and it's onwards and upwards.

The secret of life is not to dwell on what could have been and think about 'what if', but to go forward with a view that if it ended it was not to be.

I agreee with Forlorn, sometimes you never get over it, you just get on with life, instead of being sad though, smile to yourself for all the good times.xx
