I saw one in my house last night!
It was a light brown color, about the size of a soft ball (and it was round) it had about 6 inchs of tail with a about 1 inch ball on the end of the tail.

(first thing i thought of when I saw it was Fizz Gigg off of Dark crystal)
any one have any ideas what it is??

Hey Engale,

I have read with interest the answers you have received.

I'm gonna go with the most logical:

You have a Field Mouse or a Brown Rat!

They run so fast that they look just like a rolling ball. You can see their tails - usually about 4-6 inches. If it was scared, likely, then it's tail would have been bushier than what you may see under normal situations.

That's my best guess,

I'm afraid you're house may be infested with shoggagogadoogins. Shoggagogadoogins are closely related to shoggayawps and both belong to the shoggakon family. They're harmless little creatures, but if you have any indoor pets, they may be a problem as they are known to molest housecats and small dogs. If you wish to be rid of these depraved little bastards, all you gotta do is play that song by Starship "We Built This City on Rock and Roll" constanly at full volume and you should be rid of them within a couple of days. They really hate that song for some reason. I think it's a good song, but whatever.

Depends on the state you live in. Could be a flying squirrel. They are native to Missouri but am not sure of what other states. Did you bring in some firewood recently?

I would have to see the thing to know, but what I can't believe is that there is someone else who has seen Dark Crystal. YOU RULE!
