and what would happen if taken prisoner?

Not in combat, no. They need to stop thinking that they're like men, start being unselfish and serve where they're BEST SUITED. That would be in nurse capacities, clerical positions and other important areas.

There is a danger of the military becoming more like a soap opera than a fighting machine when women mingle with men, and there will always be some who will stir up trouble.

I've had about enough of this political correctness and the military is no place for it. Get the women out of combat. This is REAL LIFE and not Charlie's Angels, or Xena the Princess Warrior or whatever it was called.

With all of the above being said, if all out war occurs and we run out of men, then let them take up arms in combat. It should be a last resort.

Wow, idiot hotspot!

Women ARE currently serving in many of the world's armed forces.

Presumably, if taken prisoner, the same things would happen to a woman as a man. Why people are fixating on genital torture, I'm not sure - it doesn't really happen that often, unless you're captured by the USA...they probably think the Geneva convention was some sort of sci-fi get together.

Women do not have higher pain threshold than men. It has been shown to be a very individual response by numerous studies and that, on average, men's pain tolerance is very slightly higher than women's, although there could have been some bravado in the male subjects' responses.

Should the question not be, when are we going to stop training men and women to kill eachother in attempt to settle our international squabbles?

Sure, as long as they get the same treatment as men, and the overall standards of the armed services training is not lowered.

If they are taken prisoner by a country respecting the Geneva convention, then I guess they have nothing much more to fear than men.

However, if they are enemy combatants, then chances are methods used would be revised to suit them.

Women make up 51 percent of the population!.So It is only right and proper that they are allowed to take the risks which may arise while doing military service .

I should think that any female in the military knows what might happen if captured and understands that not all enemy's abide by the Geneva convention..

Not a good idea for women to be on the front line.
Rape would be an obvious problem for women held as prisoners of war

What has happened in the past when they were taken captive ...... Maybe they were raped and tortured and stuff. I suppose if they want to go in the armed services then why shouldn't they, although it would be absolutely nothing for me, the next woman may feel different.

If it's appropriate, why not? My son was told he couldn't get a job in the fire service because he was the wrong sex and colour. How ridiculous is that? Who would you rather have rescue you - a strapping 6ft 4 inch man or a five foot two woman who can't control the firehose? If a woman's physical body allows her to fight without jeopardising her colleagues, then her brains might come into play.
I'm against anyone fighting, though. Every soldier is someone's child.

Why not, the Russian and the Viet Cong women were just as effective behind the trigger as men combat troops. Anyway, isn't this old hat stuff, aren't they already onboard first line fighting ships is some navies?

Yes, women are (sometimes) naturally built smaller, they can fit into the cockpit or the gunner sit easier than a 250 5'9 male could.

Women tend to tolerate pain better than men, therefore becoming a prisoner might be a little more bearable.
