1986 - Canada played in the World Cup finals for the first time when the finals were held in Mexico. Playing in Group C, Canada lost 1-0 to France, and 2-0 to both Hungary and the Soviet Union.
World Cup record
1930 to 1954 - Did not enter
1958 - Did not qualify
1962 - Withdrew
1966 - Did not enter
1970 to 1982 - Did not qualify
1986 - Round 1
1990 to 2006 - Did not qualify
The Canadian men's national soccer team, overseen by the Canadian Soccer Association, has experienced little international success. In its first and only FIFA World Cup appearance to date in 1986, the team failed to score a goal and finished last. The Canadian team, however, has enjoyed success in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, surprisingly winning the tournament in 2000 and advancing to the semifinals in 2002. However, thoughts that the side was emerging as a soccer power were at least temporarily discarded with a poor showing in the qualification rounds for the 2006 FIFA World Cup where it failed to reach the final stage of CONCACAF qualifying.

CANADA has only made one appearance at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. they, however lost all three group matches & failed to qualify for the next round. since then, they have failed to qualify for the World Cup finals.
1986 FIFA World Cup 1st round Group C:
01 June 1986 - CANADA 0-1 FRANCE
06 June 1986 - HUNGARY 2-0 CANADA
09 June 1986 - SOVIET UNION 2-0 CANADA
CANADA's overall World Cup finals statistic:
final appearance : 1
won : 0
draw : 0
lost : 3
goals scored : 0
goals conceded : 5

not in the near future unfortunely. i have to disagree with the person that said that the team has improved when the reality they havent at all. the reasons for this is that the salvadorian football federation is completly unorganized and inempt to helping out the team to be competive and reach a status where they can really compete against giants of the concacaf. like someone mentioned the league is also not competitve and that doesnt help the players cause. as a salvadorian it is disappointing but it isnt hopeless for the country to reach another world cup someday.
