You need a filter/pump that moves at least 1200 gph(gallons per hour) to have the minimum amount of water flow for the tank to thrive

Marine tanks can be time consuming. I will not be one to tell you not to do it. They can be very rewarding. It would however benefit you if you had some Tropical fish experience to help with it's success. But back to your question. The amount of filtration you need for marine is at least enough to turn the tank over at least 3-4 times per hour. Meaning you would need to filter 885 - 1180 liters per hour. As for pumps....it has a lot to with what you want in your tank. If you are are going fish only....minimal is OK. But certain corals require heavy water movement to be successful. You need to sit down and decide what you want in your tank and come up with a plan. That would be my first step to deciding what equipment is needed.

marine set ups can be very difficult and time consuming to maintain far better to go for tropical.if its the colour your after a simple rock and sand based aquarium containing MALAWI CICHLIDS should suffice.you can overcome the terretorial issues with these fish by simply moving the rocks around every now and then. they tend to get attached to an object rather than a specific area in the tank.ex ternal filters are best and i would think you should use two. i use fluval.
