I was just wondering others opinions on it and if you have one on your back...how bad it hurt. And for those of you who KNOW what you're talking about...how long do you think something like this would take?? I also wanted to add three small butterflys to put my childrens names in. Please don't asnwer with stupid answers trying to lecture me about tattoos. If YOU don't like tattoos, DONT GET ONE! I dont care if you tell me your opinion on THIS tattoo, just not on me GETTING a TATTOO. Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS....Sorry the picture is so small....

I planned on putting it on my back....from my left shoulder down to my waist. 12 HOURS!!!! Good Lord...I handle pain pretty well...though I got a tat on the top of my foot and that was pure hell. I also have a very small one on my neck (a buttergly) and my wrist (A rose) which didnt compare to the one on my foot!! But 12 hours is a LOOOOOOOONG time to sit and have a tattoo done...lol.

Looks pretty cool, the colours are great too.
I had one drawn onto my back a few years ago and it was my first.
I had no idea how sore it was going to be and ended up drinking a whole bottle of whisky to endure the pain.
It was three hours plus to complete so somewhat smaller than the one you show us here.
It covered one shoulder blade so i guess there was no cushioning as it was just bone behind the skin.Perhaps if your artist were to do it in such a way they the went for the more fleshy parts of your back then it might be more comfortable for you.Or make it a tad smaller?
I think i have low pain threshold so maybe you will be able to stand the discomfort longer and with less stress than i did.

I am glad i did it though.
Best of luck.

Thats a cool tattoo. Huge! I think it may take anywhere from 6-12 hours. You should probably go to your artist and talk about it first.

I have three tattoos. The biggest tattoo I have is on my lower back. When that thing was healing, it was pure hell. It felt like the worst sunburn ever. I couldn't sleep on my back, it even hurt if i wore a sweatshirt! But like they say, no pain no gain.

The design looks nice. I have a small one on my back (left shoulder) and it didn't hurt too much. But like others have said, everyone has different levels of pain tolerance. I would suggest you get something smaller for a first tattoo and one you could add onto later if you want to. The butterflys with your children's names sound like a good idea for a first one.

Good luck!

I think the tattoo is too big and garish. I have 2 tattoos on my back. One, on the small of my back is a tribal yin yang, hurt so bad when I got it all the muscles in my back contorted while I was getting it. And a bad ink lot to boot. I had to get it recolored 2 yrs later. Another, the Chinese symbol for love is on my shoulder blade, barely felt it. As a rule, if its near a bone or nerve center, it hurts like hell, in a muscle or fatty place, its easy,
If you get a tattoo, be sure to get it in a place you can hide it, or you will be sorry you are out of the job market when you have kids.

Very nice design. I have a tat right between my shoulder blades, on top of my spine. It's all blackwork instead of one red spot on it. Any tat hurts like hell, but after the outline is done, the area pretty much goes numb. Red hurts like hell because it has to go deeper into the skin, because reds fade pretty quickly. Good luck and the best advice I can give is to find a good artist.

I would suggest having the artist change it a bit b/c someone else obviously has this one already and I hate seeing more than one person with the same tat. The back definitely doesnt tickle. I have 3 on my back, 1 on the back of my neck, 1 on my hip, and 5 on my ankles....bottom of the back was by far the worst.

I don't have my tattoo yet, but I hear that the pain varies per person. I know many that have tattoos on their backs, some passed out, some did not mind, and others coped with the pain by smoking a pack of cigarrettes..... only you know your pain tolerance, so no one will be able to tell you how you're going to react during the process.

I like it but it is a little big. Depeding on the artist this kind of work could take about 12hrs give or take. This is a kind of tattoo that is done in sessions(a few hours at a time). I wouldnt recommend it as a first tattoo. BUT, if you like it that much I say go for it !

hey there..i have 4 tattoos now and still counting.. it's pretty painful depending on what part of your body u wanna get inked..bony parts are usually more painful.. how it feels? imagine yourself under a sewing machine for 12 hours.. feels like a cutter slicing through your skin actually.. the pain also depends on your artist..some are light-handed.. just depends on your luck.. but if you're really into body art.. go for it.. but i should warn you.. the pain gets pretty addicting.. u'll end up goin back fo more..;p
