Even if no one is around to hear the noise. The tree does indeed make a crashing sound when it falls.

why wouldn't it? It a tree. It is heavy. There will be things it hits on the way down. Which in turn creates noise. Who said noise doesn't exist when were not around to hear it?! So yes it makes a sound...I wouldn't go as far to describe it as crashing...but a sound.

I assume the no one you speak of is a person. Of course it would still make a sound and all the animals would hear it. Although humans would like to think that they are the center of the universe they are not. Other animals have hearing too. In fact other animals have a better sense of impending disaster than man does. Man has to rely on the emergency broadcasting network, or CNN as the case may be.

Just as an object can break the sound barrier, whether or not we see or hear the sonic boom ~ noise created without a listener is still noise. Noise can be measured by machines...sound waves. They are a tangible item. They exist as sound, sometime as in-audible sounds. If a dolphin sends noise through the water to all of his friends, but none hear him...did he make a noise? Yes. :)

Yes it would still make a sound. It's like if a man says something and the wife isn't there to hear it, is he still wrong? DUH...probably. Just kidding. I know you men are smart, but I couldn't help but tell that old joke.

It makes sound waves. If any eardrums or sensitive feet are there to detect the sound waves to convert them into "sound", then yes. If the tree is on a completely deserted island, with only the tree, and no animals whatsoever, then no, there would be no "sound", only sound waves.

sound is a being's perception of vibrations carried by the air. what we call sound does occur even if no receiver is there to pick up the vibrations. Is a radio station across the nation broadcasting right now even though my car stereo will not pick it up?
