I have been playing tennis for a few years. While I can hit the ball between the legs whenever I face the net, I can never return a ball between the legs whenever my back is turned away from the net. Does anyone have tips?

Well let me tell you my friend that it looks hard when you start but after that it becomes easy.
First when I started, I thought that the best way to do It was to Hit the ball as high as possible. but i've realized thet it,s not the way that it works. You have to first watch the ball and then hit it when it's about to bounce the second time. You should always try to get the ball under your leg before hitting it.
Before trying it on the court, you should try it on your own. Lob yourself and try to get it.
At first you wil probably hit your feet some times, but don't worry it use to happen to me. If you keep on practicing it , you'll get it eventually.....
good Luck.....

I am the same as you. Then again it was nothing that looked like I was to interested in practicing. I would say beat the ball back to the spot, bend your back, catch site of it over your shoulder , jump with both feet and swing stopping your follow through in time, then watch your opponent hit a volley 4 miles an hour into the open court for a winner.

The "tweener" really isn't as hard as many people think it is. Really all you need to do is hold the racquet to the side with a very wristy follow thru. You make the contact close to the ground obviously and don't follow thru very far. You don't use your normal continental grip for this shot. Another shot that i use that I dont see many others use often is a lot easier. Instead of running straight for the ball and going tweener, go to the side and use the same concept. You can follow thru more and get better aim and lift.

Well its a fun shot to do once you get the hang of it. I think its best to try and hit the ball just before it hits the ground on the 2nd bounce (obviously). But try to hit it as high as you can as if you are trying to hit it over the fence behind you.

Hope this helps.

Anticipation of where the ball is going to be and then very carefully or you might hit the wrong ones. :)

It is very difficult. It takes a lot of practice.
