I was led to this site from the american website a few days ago, with someone bashing America, and of course there is the people who say they hate America and we are all fat... Well a few monthes ago, I was reading yahoo news and there was an article about how Europe was increasing in obesity at a high rate. I was curious about the comparison so I looked it up.

In Britain, one in five children are overweight or obese, in Spain the figure rises to 30 percent, and in Italy, 36 percent. In the United States, roughly 30 percent of American children are overweight or obese, according to recent studies.
I admite Britains obesity rate is quite a bit lower, by 10%. But its kind of like a 250lb person calling a 300lb person fat. You guys have the problem too, so why do you use it as a reason to hate America? I know there are other reasons and I dont want to hear about them, because I already have and a lot I agree with.

I only posted this in UK site because, more replies then the other europe countries. And the fact that I dont speak their languages.
And yes all those fast food places came from here, thats why we got fat first. And every other country will follow. Human beings are the same no matter what country we live in, if we have a access to more food then we need, we will eat it. Not everyone thinks like that of course, but a majority do. And to the people that arent blessed with a great metabolism then it gets even worse.

And yes, I know most asian countries have good health. Its not because they diet on purpose. Its their culture, they grew up around fish and rise, and its passed on. This is the reason they have the longest life expectancy. The food they eat is not all fatty and fried. But im sure you can find some fat japanese kids in the USA or any other country that eats a lot of fried foods.

undir, you must not have read the statistics. We may have people that are 'more' fat, Im not really sure. nice stat to look up but I dont feel like it. But we dont have that much more fat people % wise. And even less then Italy, same a France. Yet everyone uses it as a reason to hate us. Like I said I know there are other reasons to hate us. There are reasons to hate every country. But I just find it kind of stupid when the people that are using this excuse dont even know that their own country isnt fairing much better. And no im not saying all Europeans make the generalizion, but when people are hating America, the fat thing is one of the ones we hear the most. And I just dont understand why.

First of all, not all Europeans call Americans fat, just like not all Americans are fat. Secondly, people don't hate America because many Americans are fat. It has nothing to do with it, Americans are disliked/hated for completely different reasons.
Now, why do many Europeans think of Americans as fat? A lot of Europeans who go to the US get shocked over how many extremely fat people they see there and how the majority of the people they see is overweight. It's not that we don't have any fat people in Europe, it's just that there seems to be a lot more of them in the US and they seem to be more fat than the fat Europeans.
Europeans who go to the US as exchange students or au-pairs usually get warned about the eating habits in the US, because it's a fact that if they eat the same as the families they stay with, they'll in most cases gain a lot of weight. Americans (not all, but many) simply have very unhealthy eating habits.

Jealousy. We'd all love to live in America. However, saying that, I went to Disneyland and was quite surprised at how enormous some people were. Maybe here in the UK they just stay indoors. Also, to be fair, the obesity thing is quite recent. And people blame the fast food diet - with so many women at work few people cook any more. And fast food is one thing we've learnt from the USA.

Ever been to Japan or any other Asian country? How many obsese people (besides sumo wrestlers) do you find there? It's all in their diet. It's strict and doesn't premit obese tendancies.
