I've been having some trouble with my hard disks for a couple of weeks, they were working until today. Windows doesn't want to boot, I've tried switching back and forth hard disks and running the windows installation but I can't even get to the partition table part (blue screen). I checked the memory with memtest86 and it's fine (0 errors). The odd thing is that the HDDs are listed in the CMOS with a weird description :
SAMSUNG 120 GB IS LISTED AS QAMSUNE QP1203L
WESTERN DIGITAL 80GB IS LISTED AS UDA UD 800B@
I'M NOT SURE NOW IF IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE MOTHERBOARD, BIOS OR THE HARD DISKS. Could somebody give some some input?

Your BIOS is corrupted. If yours is flash BIOS then see which mother board you have and go to the mother board manufacturers web page and download the latest update for your BIOS and install the same on your BIOS chip. This is better done with the help of a hardware specialist since wrong updation of the BIOS would lead to problems.

Reset your CMOS to see if the description comes back a little cleaner. Reset through the pin or pop the CMOS battery and reset the BIOS to default. Also, you might want to check the battery make sure its not dead in some rare instance that could be a problem. If its still not working see if you can get a IDE card either parallel or SATA what every interface your hard drives are. If it works then defiantly a BIOS problem. I would try to avoid any firmware updates until you can rule out that it is a BIOS problem. Another thing is to check drives pins as either master/slave or even cable select which also could be a problem. Check the ribbon cables or SATA cables make sure everything is strait and clean. I've had a hard bent pin not realizing that the pin was bent causing identification problems of course that was taken care of through warranty.

Hope its enough to start with.

Don't worry just go for the following troubleshootings.

If u r novince don't worry too.
1.Just open the cabinet of the system.
2.Now only thing u can do now is just check for the cable to be fixed thightly.
3.After restarting if it fixes the problem it is due to loose connection.
4.Clear the bios setup and reboot for the fresh start.
5.If all these don't work then the problem may be on ur harddisk ,motherboard,or else other.

difficult disk failure can propose diverse issues and it would not constantly propose that your difficult force itself has failed. formerly attempting to format or changing. finding on how mushy you're inclusive of your computing gadget - you could enter the bios and alter the difficult force placing to consumer. it incredibly is regularly got here across below stepped forward settings. that is going to matter on your bios as to the place that's placed. In the two case in case you place it to consumer and it options up your difficult force try rebooting and notice if it boots appropriate. If it nonetheless does no longer i'd initiate checking the cables that connect your difficult force on your motherboard. in case you have any spares try changing them. many circumstances I actual have got here across the bios placing to verify this concern. whether, sometimes it incredibly does propose that your difficult force has crashed. It on no account hurts to rule out the hassle-free and reasonable routes first.

Reset the BIOS completely... turn the power off, unplug it, and remove the CMOS battery... hook everything back up and re-try.
