Sweet Home Alabama
Must Love Dogs
You've Got Mail
Sleepless In Seattle
The Ghost & Mrs. Muir (the original black & white version)
The King & I (the old version with Yul Brenner)
Titanic
The Lake House (just came out on DVD)
The Wedding Planner
Shall We Dance
The Rookie
All of the above are more or less categorized as "chick flicks" but some guys do enjoy them, with the exception of The Rookie - not a "chick flick." For me, any of the above would fine, but I'd also include any of the Star Wars movies, Beverly Hills Cops (all 3), Lethal Weapon (all 4), for a good laugh I'd watch any of the Scary Movie movies, and my absolute favorite.....all the Die Hard movies! A good comedy like Mrs. Doubtfire is great for a laugh as well!
So it definately depends on your your lady friend enjoys as far as movies. Try finding out what she would enjoy watching! :o)
Good luck!

I think 'The Wedding Singer' is always a good choice, or anything with Ben Stiller / Owen Wilson / Adam Sandler.
Except of course if she cant stand either of them I would reccomend a chick flick, but not anything overly soppy. Something along the lines of Notting Hill or Miss Congeniality.

The Notebook would be a great choice. I haven't cried over a movie in twenty years, until I watched The Notebook.
I found the movie a little boring in the beginning and it does start out real slow, but boy does it get good and what a great ending.

I'm concerned with your wording here, buddy. "Lady-type" makes me wonder...Well, for any occasion I'd say Fight Club or Office Space work ok. If it is a girl you are trying to impress go with something like Shallow Hal or any movie you have heard chicks talk about. (Legally Blonde, The Guru, etc) If you want to get laid, you should avoid ANY sad movies or gross movies( this includes the entire ALIENS series and most of the zombie stuff, but some girls will like gore...ask first). And for all other querries, ask the Blockbuster guys. They usually know their stuff....

Classic love movies like sleepless in seattle if you both are in love. It sux but the affection you will get afterward is great.
If you seek to score to some action during or after the movie, horror movies like the ring.
