...under the guise of copyright infringement. Nevermind that these companies never published these tabs to begin with and so it isn't copyright infringement at all. Will cover bands be their next target? If it's an infringement simply to put these things out on the web, then it must be an infringement to play them as well.

Well I can understand why they (record companies) are doing this, obviously they have rights over all the music books people buy, or used to buy, so if people can find these tabs on the net, they lose biz, I remember back in the day when I started playing guitar we had no Internet and had to either buy the books or try to get the notes and play by ear lol.. they are doing the same thing with websites that offer song lyrics, believe it or not, because they say they are copyrighted, to the point that some artists refuse to let these websites publish their song lyrics, which I find utterly ridiculous, now about cover bands, I hope things will not go that far, you're not recording the songs, therefore you don't have to pay copyright BS...even though cover bands do charge money at their gigs...the money part could become a problem in the near future as well, because they can always say that cover bands are making a profit playing someone else's music, catch my drift? so yes cover bands could be the next target, but it will take a long time before they can actually do something legally, how are they going to monitor this activity? unless you announce the cover bands as tribute bands, then I guess "cover band" will end up being eliminated from flyers, websites, and any other form of advertisement, sometimes I feel we are going backwards in a lot of ways... what a crock of sh*t

Cheers

What a joke! When they DO publish tabs it is usually the same lame songs all in the key of C.

Screw them and long live our free Tabs.
