because its human nature. its instinctive. and leaders make the decision that it would be a faster way than solving the problem through peace.

Fighting stems from jealousy, greed, and a few other things that make up the human machine. But if you'll notice, people who fight always have someone backing them up. If we say no i'm not even gonna watch you fight, let alone participate. Most of the fighting would stop. And someone is always wanting what someone else has. Mankind can never be satisfied, it's in his nature. Animals fight for territory. We are sophisticated animals. Fighting and killing is how nature balances itself out. If there was no fighting and killing, the world would be so over populated, we wouldn't even have a place to sit down. It's a nature thing. the cold hard facts of life. If you will. Your answer is yes.

its a very attractive idea, all of us living in peace, but there is a problem with this concept, it requires that the resources that are available to man kind should be enough to full fill every ones demand, and that is not possible, there are 6 billion people living on this planet, no other mammals (and other "large" animals) have ever attained such a large number of population, this is bound to create problems.
People don't fight because they want, but they have to, the resources available are much less than the demand of the people, this means some of us will have to let go of these resources while others enjoy them, who will let go, and who will enjoy them, how do we decide, the only way is to fight it out the stronger keeps the spoils of the war. a very inhumane concept, but the very foundation of human civilization, look at our history our progress has always been fueled by competition or war.
The only way to get peace is to drastically reduce our population (and demands), but i don't see that happening in the near future.

Success only feeds the appetite of aggression.

Well, the problem is a conflict of ideas. If humanity decided that all people were equal, except for those born on Depression Island, who were inferior and must die, then those people would fight. A world without a struggle for power would be one with no ambition, no attempts to improve life, and one without any formalized education. [teaching is in part about power]
And so, because of the conflict of interests and the strength of individuality, people fight for power.

So far I think "Springs From Salt" is the only one that even recognizes that you started the question with the word SHOULD.

The obvious answer is NO. We shouldn't but undoubtedly we will. Anyone that's even taken a basic psych class just to earn the credits knows about A and B personalities. Another year in pre-med will introduce you to the use of Ace Inhibitors and Beta Blockers.

We're not all that far ahead of the wolves or apes. Less hairy and not able to lick where we'd most like to, but that's about it.

Should we fight ....No...however we always will unless we can change our nature
or be changed......ego, pride, arrogance, mostly mental/personality disorders...... the list could go on , the up side is these conditions provide work for many people and support a huge industry

How would we cope if all the world were sane, mature, thoughtful
and so on ............

Well, we seem to have been fighting since Cain slew Able and there is no indication that we are ever going to stop so I guess the answer to your question is a definite YES....

"should humans always fight" - No it is nonproductive.
WILL humans always fight - sadly but probably.
But there are probably more people getting along now then any point in recorded history.
