For me, I was in love with the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy (NES). Just four generic characters, tromping around the four elements. But then, there's also FF2 and FF3 (Super NES). Their storylines were interactive, gave you lots of control, and had lots of hidden little nuggets.

Nowadays, with these damn newfangled Final Fantasy games, there's no challenge and it's like reading a comic book. You just follow along and go through the motions. How dull.

i whole heartedly agree with your statement. for me, it was a tough choice between FFI or Dragon Warrior IV.

but, FFII (snes) beats them both. chrono trigger tromps FFII, and Lufia II was easily the best RPG on snes

a few weeks ago, i tried asking why FFVII sucks so much, but no one could give a good reason. it's a mystery.

heh, if you look at my Q&A, you'll find a petition to NOT remake FFVII

the problem with the newer ones is not that they aren't challenging, the problem is that they suck.

While I do agree that the NES and SNES FFs that you mentioned were better, you can find some challenge in 7-10. In 7, 9, and 10, try a rushed through, low-level game. In FF8, limit the number of draws you do per fight.

Also, before you knock these kids too much, remember FF: Mystic Quest. That was on SNES, and it was the easiest and dullest FF in my opinion.

I recently bought a double pack for my game boy sp Final Fantasy I/II Dawn of Souls, I love the first one but I can't seem to make it past the bigger enemies with the little bit of strength my characters have in the second one :-( But I know what you mean, I love the old school Final Fantasy games!

Ah yes, the old classic Final Fantasys of NES and SNES. Fun to play, hard as hell to complete!

Never did finish 2, the only one of the series I couldn't manage >.<"

I loved the first Final Fantasy for NES. I loved it when I finally finished it. What a blast from the past.

FF7 is the best. Ever. Period. It had everything, a colorful cast, an intriguing story, and a pretty good battle system, it just can't be topped (at least not yet but Tales of Symphonia came VERY DAMN NEAR close

Great game, and hey if you liked that then as me you should also like beyond the beyond for ps1, it's alot like ff1.
I really don't get into role playing games anymore. None of them have the old charm.

The one I really liked was the one with Cecil, the dark knight. (I think it was FF2). Also FF7. But I'm really looking forward to FFXII
