I recently bought a western-style leather holster for one of my classic guns, but the leather is so stiff that I can't even get the gun into the holster. Doe anyone know how to soften leather so I could use this holster?

It depends on what type or style of holster you have. Some holsters are designed to be very stiff especially when you first get them. The retention of the handgun may depend on the stiffness of the leather. One thing you may want to be careful of is holster wear to the finish of your "classic gun". A new holster requires a break-in period. There are several products on the market that can help make the draw smoother and condition the holster one product is called Leather Lightning. You should not use oil or you may make the holster to soft to use. I would consult the holster maker. They should be able to offer good solid advise on what to do and may even have a product they can recommend. Some products you may try to use may ruin the finish or discolor the holster. You need to make sure the product is compatible with what the holster was constructed with. Another thing to consider is that they sent you the wrong holster for your firearm. Even a very stiff holster should let you get the firearm in to it with a little work. If you want you can drop me a line and if you have pictures I will try and help you out even more. Good luck and good shooting.

I think the same oil one would use to condition a baseball mitt would work on the holster.
