I took it a long time ago for some breaking out on my upper back. The doctor had tried several meds but nothing worked. Had never had acne or any skin problems before that. Accutane is very drying to the skin. Before you even start to take it, you need to use something to moisturize your lips and maybe the nasal passages. When I took it, the corners of my mouth stayed sore the whole time and my skin was very dry. Some people have very dry nasal passages with nosebleed. These side effects are normal, as the drying of the skin is how the product works to get the desired effect, but I got so tired of the sore mouth. They had to do blood tests every couple of months due to possible liver toxicity if the dosage happened to be too much. But hey, guess what, the good news is, it cleared up the breaking out and it NEVER came back. So, for me, the side effects were worth it. Absolutely DO NOT take it if you're pregnant or even think you could be because it can cause severe birth defects.

My son used Acutane about 5 years ago. He did 2 rounds of the medication because he had terrible acne that wouldn't clear up. He was closely watched by the doctor while he was on the medication. While on the medication, his face looked great, but when he stopped the medication, it returned, but not at badly as it had been. Recently we talked about him being on the medication all those years ago. He told me some things that scared me. He said that he had suicidal thoughts and his personality changed. He says it must have been the medication. Also, my daughter's best friend was on it just this year and ran away from home. She said something was wrong, but couldn't explain to us what it was. We think it was the medication. When her mother called the doctor, she said that there was no way it could be a reaction from the medication. I think that it should be taken off the market.

It is a treatment Acne. Acutane is a derivative of Vitamin - A. If a Doctor, has prescribed, it should be O.K. Hope, you are allergic to any medicine and you have been tested.

I heard that acutane messes with your mind. Like antideppressants. It can cause depression, and rarely even suicide attempts. Buts thats only a worst case scenario. My brother took acutane and nothing happened to him. He was a bit irratabke at times buts thats about it. Whatever you do though, dont take it while your pregnant!

Yeah I went on it when I was 14. I had to be put on birth control because if you get pregnant it will deform your baby...even though I was a virgin. and you have to get your blood work done every 3 months. you cant be on the med for more than 9 months at a time. It really dried out my skin... really bad. It works in cycles, one week your complexion is perfect, the next its horrible. this is how it is for a few months because it takes all your under the skin pimples and pushes it out. but they told me my skin would be perfect when I got off of it.. No it was not perfect but I was much better. I didnt have acne any more. I was normal. good luck!
