Ok the youth group that goes down to mexico every year...all the staff members and their leaders advise women not to make eye contact or talk or do anything with the men their age because they're more sexually outgoing and they'll take everything a woman does or say to the guy(even very innocent) as a sexual invitation.
Isn't that just wrong and unethical? or ok?
Discuss =)

Uh I don't know why you think I'm overreacting or upset. I'm just stating a question for discussion. Means nothing.

By the way they aren't my leaders. I agree with all of you just wanted to know if I was right(with what all of you are saying).

I lived in Mexico for two years while my husband worked for GM there. It isn't wrong. Most things that American Women do here would be considered as a sexual invitation. If you don't know the laungage it might be wise...to them it is an invite.
Dress as half of the American women do with the top half and bottom half mostly hangin out and then start a converstation...not a wise choice. They are more sexually open than we are. Most of ours comes from ties with the "Queen". Check your history. We are more sexually inhibited same as the British than most other countries.

Maybe there have been some experiences - they might be cautious for a good reason.
In any event by the number of adjectibes you are using I think you are overreacting at least some - and you don't give much additional information.
Find out more if you need to - with an open attitude.

It's not racist but I don't know if it's wrong or not. Perhaps the staff members are aware of some cultural differences that young girls should be aware of.
Why would you get upset over this bit of nothing? It seems that they are only trying to be of help.
It's apparent by your wording that you are trying to get people to agree with you that it is wrong and pathetic and unethical. You were not just "asking a question".

Why is any instance where someone points out cultural differences, or biological differences, immediately denounced as "racist?" You know, there are differences in this world, and I have been to enough parts of it to say this with confidence.
And I have been to Mexico, and to South America. And yes, teh men are very chauvinistic and more sexually driven. And they will take things like that as a sexual invititation. That's their culture. There are differences in this world, get used to it. It's not all one big New Jersey suburb.

I don't think it is racist at all. One culture going into another can be tricky. Hate to say it but SOME Hispanic men think they are love machines and women are for child bearing purposes only. So they want to practice with any woman who will say yes. And they will do whatever it takes to get you to say yes. I lived this growing up because the Hispanic population was growing in my area. But it was actually explained to me by a Hispanic gentleman who married a good friend of mine.

Your youth group leader is giving you good advice.You must remember first of all you are exotic to them and their culture is alot different than ours when it comes to dating and flirting.If they are looking at you intently they are telling you they like you and if you give them more than a quick glance they will take that as an invitation.
