The record setting movie "Titanic" is based on the true story of the Titanic and includes the love interest of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
Vid and Boxoffice status 10 Sept 98 - Consumers spent an estimated $250 million on purchase and rental of "Titanic" video in its first six days of release. It took more than five weeks for the movie to generate that much money at US theaters. An estimated 12-15 million copies were sold during the 1-6 September time period and the "Titanic" video is on pace to top out at 22-23 million copies. By comparison "The Lion King" sold 20 million copies during its firs six days and 26 million during its first two weeks in stores on route to overall sales of 30 million. After 38 weeks overseas, "Titanic" international boxoffice gross is at an incredibly high $1.2 billion. Add another $600 million of domestic box office for a collected worldwide total of $1.8 billion. Japan alone registers $187 million after 38 weeks.
