Dear Gouged,
Indiana, gas, $2.19 gallon, in my town.
In July, our attorney general, said he would look into gouging claims, and try to resolve our complaints.
I heard today that oil dropped again. I think it's under $50 a barrel now. (noon) Gas should not be over $3.00 gallon, unless oil hits $90 barrel.
Try contacting your state's attorney general, it may help. Write to your district's state representatives. This being an election year, they will probably be more than happy to help you and your fellow citizens. It can't hurt to try. Good luck.

Probably lol , it just depends which reason they give us this time for it.Before it was since the price of oil going up.Now their saying price of oil, is only a small effect. Then it was the hurricanes which i can understand. Then it was for changing the blends from winter to summer and the reverse for later in the year. And on a site i was reading they also said that, opec was purposly lowering production by like 1 million barrels a day.Which would then drive up demand.(So they are paying fewer people to work, yet getting tripple the profit back it not more.)That would not, make anyone want to increase demand. They also use the scarce tactic, where they think they are going to have a shortage so they jack up prices more anyways. And each year they keep rasing it,and rasing it So from is seams like no one really knows, you will hear about one thing then a week later, the price drives up and theres no explination. The U.S has a oil reserve with millions and if not more filled with oil.And they are contantly finding new places with tons of oil, just seams like opec just wants to make money. The government should some how, put a cap on the % they can make (opec, marathon,bp ect) as profit, because its pretty much a monopoly.I dont see why giving them more money because its somewhat low, helps with this so called :shortage".Some think it has to do something with pres. Bush, but im not sure could be possible, but im not going there. But I will say venezeula has oil but because their president(Chavez) hates Bush,so they refuse to do any business.Good Luck on finding out the real answer, i think it would pi** alot of people off, if we ever really found out.Bottom line, someones getting rich at the expence of others,on a neccesity and many which cannot afford it.Like i said, OPEC and the larger gas station companies are a monopoly in theirselfs.Because we have no other source and they have us by the balls, whatever they say, goes.

Perhaps there is some issue with the refineries in Utah - or the pipeline feeding them. Or maybe demand there is just outstripping supply so price is staying high. Also, there is a lot of nothing between the Ogden-Salt Lake-Provo area and any other major city. So, gas companies may be able to do what they want without fear that you will go elsewhere.

Is it possible that your gas prices have not fallen because Dick Chaney is still your Vice President?
What if all those boys came home from Iraq and we didn't have to have all those ships, airplanes, trucks, and tanks over there in IRAQ? Would there be more gas available for US Consumers? Possibly even a surplus?
Do you think for one minute that Kenneth Lay is going to pay all the teachers in California the money they lost in the Enron Debacle? I mean the money has to come from somewhere. Why not from Utah?
My recommendation is for you to get serious and do something about it. Get mad. Tell them that you are fed up and you are not going to stand for it any longer. fight back. Picket your local gas stations. Post signs advocating "Stop burning Gasoline." , "Burn Kenneth Lay as an Alternate Fuel"

Here in Texas, gas is now $2.10 a gallon and is expected to continue to drop - how far is any body's guess. As far as your high prices, part of it may be your state's gas taxes - but it seems like you are still paying way too much. It might be that you are somewhat isolated and so there isn't any nearby competition. It does cost a bit more to bring the gas to you - but not 80 cents more per gallon than what we are paying.

Because it is your turn to get gouged just like the oil companies were doing throughout California just as little as a month ago. Our prices were higher than anywhere else in the nation, without any explanation why. And you in Utah will also get no explanation, plain and simple. Take heart: this, too, shall pass.

I hear their investigating the cause. Chances are that someone has nothing to do but to go to lunch with a lot of gas/oil exec.s and then say the refinery was switching to home heating oil and the weather stayed warmer longer than was anticipated. leading to a shortage of motor fuel.

One they may not have used up the supply of gas that they had that cost them the more money. Two they may just be leaving theirs higher because they are greedy. Whatever station has the lowest will drive the prices down but if they have all consented to keeping their profits up your out of luck.

Local gas stations charge what the market will bear. They compare prices with each other and collude to keep them high. My opinion.
Just a couple of miles outside my home town, the price is 20 cents cheaper.

It is a long truck ride in for gas companies. It will probably start dropping there soon. Ours has gone from $3.15 to $2.27 in less than 4 months - YEAH!
