Diamonds are formed under high pressure and temperature of the earth on all carbon materials buried under the earth(such as trees,bodies of dead animals).It is formed just like coal.during formation,because of extremely high pressure of the earth,some of the carbon is forced to crystallize out as diamonds.

diamonds are made when carbon is put under immense pressure. they usually form under the earth's crust. which is why we mine for them.
