Benzoyle Peroxide and Salicylic Acid are the main treatments.
Also Clindamycin works very well but is usually only sold with a prescription and is expensive.
ProActive does work good for mild-moderate acne but after several weeks your skin adapts to the benzoyle peroxide and effectiveness will decrease, and usually if you discontinue use your face will over produce oil for a few days and acne may get worse.
There is a knock-off of ProActive called "AcneFree" works the same, costs less, and is available at most local retailers.
I would recomend buying a medicated cover stick, it treats your blemishes and covers them as you go throughout your day.

Hope this may have helped you. Good luck
*also as others are mentioning toothpaste works well, the flouride cleans bacteria, and the menthol, peppermint, etc will dry up the pimple.

I know that this is a frustrating problem. First, don't use oil-based products or anything too irritating. Abrasive treatments like microdermabrasion or excess rubbing can aggravate existing blackheads. Some people find great success with any product containing salicylic acid though I find it very irritating. I found great success with ProActive. There is a similar product at Target called KlearAction which is great. I recommend using a cleanser like Cetaphil along with it (especially if you wear makeup). Overwashing is a no-no too. You will produce too much oil. Twice a day is fine. Good luck and seeing a dermatologist is also an option. There is a great prescription gel call Cleacin-T (spelling?).
