Refilled ink cartridges are already used once. They are not really meant to be refilled. The average person does not have the ability to check to see if the cartridge can be refilled properly or not. You have no way of knowing the quality of the ink, or the wear on the cartridge, especially if the heads are integrated. If you are refilling yourself, you are guessing at how much ink you are putting in. Refiled cartridges from suppliers have guarantees on them because you need the guarantee. They have a higher failure rate than new cartridges, no matter what make you look at. A company like HP gives return envelopes with their cartridges so they can be returned for recycling, which is not the same refilling. I never used refilled cartridges in my old Lexmark printer. From 1997 to 2006, I cleaned it once, because I felt like it. We used refilled cartridges in a printer at work, and had to clean the heads an average of every two months, and that was with light use.
