How difficult is it to fix problems occuring with an automatic transmission, I know this question is very broad and would depend on the type of problem occuring, but generally speaking can an automatic transission be well maintained and problems fixed at home (with the right equipment), just like a manual transmission?

Thanks

AS a general rule
Automatic transmissions require very sophisticated tools and equipment
AND
They also require more than just merely repair manual knowledge to repair. Lots of experience is required to do more than just minor filter service.
Best idea is don't attempt it on a car that you plan on using in the NEAR future.

Good Luck

well it all depends on the make and model, meaning the vehicle. Some transmissions if well maintained can last for a very long time. The most commond problem I see with transmissions are fluid leaks either from cooler lines, trans pan or front pump. If the transission is leaking from the front pump seals, I would recommend for you to take the vehicle to a shop. But it all depends on the vehicle make and model

It is VERY difficult. This is one job you should leave to the pro's.
