Bush is trying to rewrite the law in this area as you are aware. i think we are all in agreement that if person is a true terrorist planning to inflict terror, that we do not much care what devises are used to extract the needed information. The problem arises when the suspect is innocent or when the authority is abused.

We should keep the current methods and rules in place.
We will not prosecute or care as long as the CIA has the RIGHT people. But start abusing the authority for personnel or political gain and rules are then to be fully enforced...kinda like speeding 5 mph over the limit is ignored but 50 mph over and your hauled off to jail...

If torture is used devoid of clever interrogation strategies (like asking questions you already understand the respond to to decide the truthfullness of the respondant) then it fairly is purely sadism. although, even whether it fairly is useful whilst used with clever interrogation strategies, there is a few thing to be suggested for being a society that would not try this style of component, even whilst it would desire to be functional. although, you will desire to rigorously outline what's and isn't torture. Waterboarding does no actual injury. Is it torture? Is sleep deprivation? Yelling on the interogee under warm vibrant lights? you will desire to draw an extremely sparkling, very vibrant line on what's and isn't suitable. curiously, I examine an editorial those days with regard to the midsection a while and their torture tactics. the writer theorized that the torture grew to become into there many times as a bluff. as an occasion the trial wherein a suspect could plunge their hand into boiling liquid and people who have been heavily burned could be seen accountable, however the harmless could be risk-free via God. the belief is this grew to become into in area a bluff. simply by fact the location believed that God knew whether or not they have been accountable or not, a accountable person assumed he would desire to not bypass the try, and could tend to admit earlier the trial. An harmless person could be confident that God could spare him, and the priest could do diffused issues like drench the hand in holy water (which might evaporate and guard the hand quite interior the liquid as is finished via carnival area prepare performers). the merchandise stated some different user-friendly examples. for sure they weren't all like that, yet i stumbled on it interesting.

Acceptable to who? To me personally....I don't care what they do to them if they know for sure that they are involved. But politically, in my opinion, cold rooms, sleep deprivation, loud music, standing up for long periods of time...these are things I think we as a nation could support.
