The restaurant will not pay the tip. It would be nice if you and all 7 of your friends contribute toward the tip. Could you suggest this to them, that way, no-one would be out a lot of cash. If not, you would need to pay tip out of pocket.

Please remember that most restaurants, when serving a party of six or over, figure the amount of gratuity and add it to your ticket.
If you wish, you could call the restaurant and ask if they do it that way. Then you will be prepared to pay it.

Congratulations on winning the contest - hope you have lots of fun!

I would say that you need to tip the server(s).

The restaurant is giving you the free food but the poor old waitstaff still survive on tips so maybe have your friends chip in for the tip.

One thing to check though is that some restaurants add in the gratuity for larger parties (sometimes over 6) so there is a chance that it will be included in the total but I would still plan on being prepared to pay the tip yourself

On the ticket there is often a notice that says, "We add gratuity to parties of 6 or more." However, you won't be receiving a tab because the restaurant is buying you your meal.
What I would do is pull aside the manager before sitting down and ask if gratuity is included in this "give-away."
If not, guess at the amount of the tab and tip at least 20 percent.

Yes, you should still pay the tip even though the meal was comp'ed.

Even when you redeem a coupon/entertainment card/etc., you should still pay tip on the amount that the bill would have been without the coupon.

The server will still be doing their job despite the fact that you aren't paying for the meal. They deserve the tip & shouldn't be "punished". Just my opinion.

Dont' tip if:
- you are told not to (ask the manager)
- the meals are pre-prepared
- the service is not exceptional

Be prepared to tip if:
- you were actually waited on
- your service warrents a tip
- the manager says that you should take care of hte service
- you actually won a gift card/certificate. This way, you would be eating your meal like any other diner.

Absolutely. Food and service at a restaurant are two different things. Maybe you can be a little more generous since the meal is free :) Remember what goes around comes around!

No! Plan on a gratuity of at least 15% and pay it even if the restaurant says not to. They are budgeting to give away free food, not full free service.

The tip is extra you and your friends should be happy to split it. and tip more if you think that your server did a good job. Just because you won a free lunch, I can pretty much guarantee they aren't paying your server extra.

Yes, the server will be taking your order & serving you. You should definitely tip at least $2-3 per person.

Let your friends pay the tip, they're all getting free food. They can atleast pay a dollar each. Restaurants don't tip your waiter/waitress for you.
