I just got over a rough pregnancy...Severe hyperemesis, hypertension and HELLP Syndrome..The Doctors and Nurses say I most likely won't have this experience with my future pregnancies..especially if it's with the same guy..Is there any truth to this?

You actually have a 47% chance of having this again in subsequent pregnancies (pubmed articles - just google HELLP).

You can be treated with preventative medication, but it sounds pretty risky to me.

there is a series of blood tests that they can do to see if you are genetically predisposed to pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. I was hospitalized with severe pre-eclampsia at 21 weeks with my first pregnancy. I lasted nine weeks and when it developed into HELLP syndrome at 30 weeks they had to do an emergency C-section. My daughter was a preemie and spent 8 weeks in the hospital but she is doing wonderfully now almost 3 years later.

My next pregnancy started showing the same symptoms, but later in the pregnancy. I lasted until 36 weeks before they had to do the c-section.

My advice, wait for six months after the end of that pregnancy, get back to good health, and have the blood tests done before you start trying again.
