Yes. It's generally done with a crossover cable. You can probably find specific directions with your Windows guide. It differs from one operating system to another, but you can fairly easily get two computers to recognize each other.

Connect both of them and run the Network Setup Wizard... tell it it's a Peer-to-Peer (Ad Hoc) Network. Follow the on screen directions and at the end make sure to say Yes to File/Printer Sharing. On the laptop, you're gonna have to enable ICS (internet connection sharing) so the PC can use the DSL.

Put quite simply, yes. However you will need a crossover cable. This is unless you plan to invest in a router.

WTF does Time Warner have do do with instantaneous networking? month-to-month fee? They tried to sell you the farm. in case you purely have the two desktops, you're able to do "advert-hoc" networking. in case you have the two desktops and a router, then you definately can hook them the two to the internet, despite in case you have DSL or cable, and Time Warner would not could desire to keep in touch in any respect. They bought you a gaggle of crap - they prey on novices by advertising y'all stuff you do no longer prefer. in case you purchase the instantaneous hardware, you do no longer could desire to pay Time Warner one pink cent to establish abode instantaneous networking. they are in all probability attempting to strengthen the fee of your provider indefinitely for hardware that they are procuring as quickly as... it is the hustle. As on your cable length, the max, by the specification for cat5, is a hundred meters.

One thing about network sharing, you need to take care of firewalls and/or antivirus settings on your pc...

just for testing purpose, disable both of them for a short while on both systems. and test.
