I'll bet you could make one yourself. Here are some ideas.
1.A large cardboard box that is laid flat. Draw the roads and buildings on it and color them in. The kids will like the box so much it will become the toy of choice though.
2. Connect several boxes together and cut windows in them. Make a passageway from one end to the other-they can drive the cars and trucks right through.
3.Cut brown paper bags and tape together. Draw the items on there.
4. Find natural items from outside like leaves, twigs, pebbles and gravel - glue to the brown paper bags. Children are not hard to please.
5. Make different colored buildings out of construction paper and let them draw the windows and doors.
6. Paper towel and toilet paper rolls make great tunnels for hot wheels cars.
Enjoy - have lots of fun, and do let them help you.

i have seen something like this at toys r us. It is not plastic, it is a rug, not to long or wide, that has streets, trees, etc. It was around 9.99 check with them and see. I would suggest going to the store instead of calling, only because the associate might not know what u are talking about.

go to amazon and do a search for play mats. that will give you the broadest view of what is available on the market right now, and the price ranges. also, check ebay if youre looking to save money and buy used. i get alot of things for my 2 yr old there.
