I am getting a pap smear tomorrow.. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that had an abnormal one.. if so did you have symptoms because of it? Well this sounds stupid but I really don't have any symptoms of anything but could I still get back an abnormal test? or do you usually have some kind of symptoms if you have an abnormalty? I am just scared I am going to get an abnormal test and it's going to say I have some serious disease or something!! Any insight or comfort?? Thanks

most of the time you will not be feeling any thing strange in yoru body with an abnormal test result. I had one and it was pre-cancerous cells. They watched it every month for changes and it was noo longer a concern. The fact that you are going is great you willprobably come out fine. Out of my 10 years of going one 1 time has there been something up and it was nothing in the end.. Take a deep breath and be positive.

It is possible to have an abnormal pap even if you are not having any symptoms. The HPV virus can actually hide for up to 20 years or so before being detected.HPV standing fo Human Papiloma Virus,is the cause of genital warts ,and cervical cancer. The best defense is to have protected sex if you are not monogomous, and to have a Pap done annually. There is now a vaccine available for this if you have never tested positive, and are 26 years old or younger.

Please don't worry. Abnormal pap smear results are less likely than normal results.
An abnormal result will come from HPV which causes cell changes on the cervix. HPV is the most common cause of cervical cancer.
HPV is a virus that causes warts but sometimes only affects cells on the cervix.
If you get an abnormal result they will test you again, and usually that one comes back normal.

lots of people get abnormal pap smears. you could have a bacterial infection, and your pap will be abnormal. in that case, you get some prescription cream, and you are fine. or you could have HPV. (human papiloma virus, sorry for spelling..) lots of women have this. Some times you have no symptoms, and you are fine. But it is good to be checked for it, because HPV can cause genital warts and/or cervical cancer. Be sure you tell your doctor you want to be tested for HPV with the PAP. It can be run off of the same sample.

Sometimes it is nothing, sometimes it is an incorrect result and sometimes it is that something is amiss.I did get an incorrect result once and drove myself crazy for nothing. Take a deep breath. If you are not having symptoms of anything then even if something is wrong it is possibly in early stages which is good. They might be able to cure or treat it. This is the important part. I realize that you are frightened but you need to stay calm because you will not help your situation if you are stressed out. Take a few deep breaths and stay as calm as possible. Take good care of yourself and pamper yourself. Treat yourself with extra care until you get your results. You deserve it and it will help. Be well.

slow down! you have nothing to worry about! there are usually no symptoms of an abnormal pap smear. get checked once per year and you will be fine. oh yeah and if you are not in a monogamous relationship, practice safe sex!

Relax....it's unlikely that you will have an abnormal result. And even if you do, it can be lots of things that aren't particularly dangerous. You CAN have an abnormal test without any symptoms....that's why you need the test !
