Who's asleep and dreaming you and I up and giving us life while that "thing" or whatever is asleep. Its unusual, this "thing" is programming our life to give us the impression we are alive and doing our thing! When we fall asleep (whenever that is), it means that "thing" is awake and is going about it's daily life and we're forgotten till it goes back to sleep!
No! I don't watch tv or movies!!! Its this feeling I've been having lately. What do you think about this? No! I don't drink, smoke pot, take drugs or anything else. My system is clean!

An old philosophical question Descartes used in his meditations in proving that God exists. It's been a while since I took my philosophy class but here goes. This "thing" you are talking about Descarte called the evil deceiver. Because we have dreams that we could swear are real our senses are bound by thought. So, if our mind is perceiving things around us that are not really there we would never know. This is where that famous saying comes in " I think therefore I am" we could be deceived into our own existence because we are thinking and thinking in itself is existing. I am sorry it probably does not seem like I am answering you question it would have to take a deep discussion for me to show you what Descartes was trying to prove because I just threw some proofs at you. If you really want to find your own answers read Descartes three meditation's really pay attention to Meditation one because Descartes really talks about what you are asking and read Hume " The inquiry of the human understanding" hopefully this will help you develop your question with some logic behind it. I should also mention Descartes meditation have been proved to be flawed with circular reasoning and the fact that to every cause has an equal or greater effect is not set on any fact because it could be argued that all causes and effects are equal neither is greater. But, however it is important to look at Descartes because he led the enlightenment and will be of great use to anyone who wants to expand their thought
