The "true" CH sound has various pronunciations such as "chute" or "chat." It can also be pronounced as a hard C or a K as in "chiropractor." Words wherein the CH has the K sound are almost always of Greek origins. Al the rest are not pronounced without the K sound. "Charlie" is not of Greek roots and is always pronounced as in "chat" unless, of course, one is illiterate and lacking knowledge of the English language, which seems to be the case with about 80 per cent of Americans today.
