He was buried at the zoo that he founded in Australia. The government authorized his body to lie in rest at the Australian Zoo. He was not cremated.

A source tells Australia’s Sunday Mail newspaper, “The service was a service for family and good friends, people who were close to Steve in recent years. The council gave the family permission to bury Steve at the zoo and we think they’re going to erect a monument there so visitors can continue to pay their respects.”

Irwin died last Monday after being stung in the chest by a stingray while diving at the Great Barrier Reef. Australia’s Prime Minister John Howard had offered a state funeral for Irwin but his father, Bob Irwin, insisted that his son would have wanted a simple farewell.

Yeah Steve was buried at Australia Zoo at Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast, it was a private family and close friends service.
I am not sure where in the zoo he is buried, hopefully it is where the public can pay there respects when they visit. I will be going out there soon with my family, so if you would like to know you can email me and keep in touch.

Funeral and memorials
Queensland Premier Peter Beattie extended the offer of a state funeral to Irwin's family, an honour also agreed to by Prime Minister John Howard. The family decided that such a funeral wouldn't be appropriate. Steve Irwin's father, Bob Irwin, stated that his son would not have wanted such an honour, and would want to be remembered as an "ordinary bloke". Beattie stated he would honour the decision of the Irwin family regarding their arrangements. Irwin was farewelled by family and friends at a private funeral service held at Caloundra on the afternoon of 9 September. The naturalist was buried in a private ceremony at the zoo
