Okay, why are you saying "I"? Are YOU going to do it yourself?
I had one for 2 years and loved it. Hardly anyone knew I even had it. I did have to take it out though, I mean you grow up and kinda grow out of the whole thing. But I had a professional do it and the clamp that they hold your tounge with hurts more then the actual piercing. I couldn't eat or talk for 1-2 days but I had no infections at all and all I did to take care of it besides normal oral hygiene was clean it a lot during the first month, they will tell you everything you need to know when you get it done.
Check out a few places, if you know anyone with a tongue ring ask them where they got it. Just ask a lot of questions when you go and then take a week to really think about it again. If you are sure by that point go for it. Have fun.

Are you crazy???? If you want to be careful, don't do it yourself. Not only could you get a nasty infection, you could either bleed to death or hit a nerve and paralyze your tongue. I'm not an expert, but why would you risk doing something like this yourself? I had my tongue pierced by a professional and it hurt like hell and bleed for a long time. The only advice I can give you is to NOT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My hubby has his peierced and no not for sexual reasons!! He just used the mouth wash like they said (every time he ate) and brushed around his tounge well every time he brushed his teeth. Also keep the jewlery away from your teeth. He has had the piercing for almost a year and he still cares for it the same way as if it was a new piecing and he has had NO problems with it..

If you absolutely are going to, invest in some Listerine and rinse out your mouth about every half hour, and do it well! My sister said her "artist" suggested it to keep possible infections at bay. Also, don't plan on eating for 24 hours, your tongue will be too swollen.

I think its more effort than its worth!
Most people chew on them, thats how they wreck your teeth.
Itd be a constant pain in the *** cleaning & takin care of it - for little reward.
And now theyre so common its not even a novelty... like tattoos.
Go an eyebrow ring instead - I think theyre way funkier :o)

This isn't a do-it-yourself project, have a pro do it, there are some large blood vessels that, if broken, can acually cause you to bleed to death. Why people do this I have no clue, but if you are going to do it, get it done right.

My advice is don't do it. It can mess up your teeth (that is what dentists say), as well as destroy some of the taste buds on your tongue. I believe this damage is permanent.

My advice is to not do it. It swells up and can get infected. It's not attractive and will be out of style soon.
