I had my sonogram today and the tech told me that there is a 75% chance that it is a girl, because if it a boy the sac has not dropped yet. Then he went on and told me not to buy any girls stuff because at 24 weeks I am getting another one just to be sure. So I don't know if I should tell people what they told me. Everyone I know has been told definately boy or girl. Has this happened to any of you?

with my first son, they could tell at 16 weeks. with my second son they could tell at 20 wks. i actually had 3 friends in the past 3 yrs have many u/s and were told by the tech seceral times---"we think it's a girl--but we aren't 100% sure" and they had girls. personally, if you feel like telling people--just tell the truth--"they could only be 75% sure--but they said they think we are having a girl" and tell them you will have a follow up u/s to confirm. no big deal. congrats!

19 weeks is just a bit early to be 100% sure unless it is a boy who's sack has dropped.

But my daughter had many medical problems with her last pregnancy. She had to have plenty of ultrasounds and sonograms. They started telling her early on that they were 75% sure it was a girl. No one would give us better odds than that because the baby was small and my daughter was very ill. Well, our tiny premature granddaughter arrived 2 months early. They had been right all along. So I would pretty much bank on it being right. I would however hold out on buying anything for her since they have to do another one at 24 weeks anyway. If you want to tell people and lets face it, we all know that you do, Just tell them what the tech. told you. There is a 75% chance its a girl....

Congrats.

I'd wait to tell anyone. Ultrasounds are not perfect, and many, many people have been misled on gender by a well-meaning tech. I know it's exciting and everything feels like it's taking so long now that you're pregnant, but try to distract yourself and wait a little longer. Rejoice in the news of a healthy baby.

If you absolutely can't wait, then tell it like it is. Say it looks like a 75% chance that it's a girl. No way you need to say something definite like "it's a girl" when the tech didn't feel that certain.

Enjoy the miracle!

I have had the same thing, at 16 weeks though... They said it was a 75% chance of a boy, but I found out at 20 weeks that it is a boy... Anyway, yes, this does happen a lot.

yes this has happened to me. i had a sono done at 20 weeks and said most likely a girl but it was a 50/50 chance but was leaning more towards girl. then had another done at about 30 weeks and definitely a girl. i told everyone that the doctor wasn't sure (at 20 weeks) and if they were to buy anything then buy something that a girl or boy would wear. but its up to you. you could always buy girl stuff and keep the receipt or you can buy both sex's clothes.

I would wait to tell anyone until you have your next ultra sound. He is right. They are more likely to be wrong when they say it may be a girl because sometimes the male genitals don't drop until closer to birth. With my son they could definately tell at my 21 week scan.

I had three before they could tell for sure if it was a girl. The first one she was laying wrong, the second they weren't real sure then finally the last one they could tell. So yea it may take more than one to be sure. Good Luck.

sometimes they can't tell, depends on how the baby is laying in your uterus. If you wanna tell people, go for it, it's a personal choice. But, I know people that have been told they are having a certain sex then oops! it was the opposite when the baby was born.

jeeeeze, I can't imagine having to wait another 5 weeks to find out. Yeah, my little brother kept his hand in front of his junk so we never really knew until he came out. I have heard of the droppy thing too. Good luck with that.
