It has great characters.
It does a good job of introducing the characters. It didn't go out and tell you everything about everyone the first few episodes. Instead, it focuses on just a few characters at a time.
It revisits the characters, constantly giving additional important information about them. Just wen you think you understand all there is that is relevant about a character, they reveal something new.
Then they intertwine the characters thru previous experiences. Sometimes this is obvious. Sonetimes it is nothing more than someone in the background.
It does invite the watcher to develop feelings - good or bad - towards each character and their history.
Next, it handles the plots well. Each episode can stand on its own, yet each contributes to some broader plot encompassing several episodes. This provides both the instant gratification of the episode and longer term interest in the series.
The biggest risk - and the evventual demise of the series - will come when they have too many plots in progress, the plots become too outragfeous to support the suspnsion of disbelief, people get tired of waiting for the plots they are interested in to resolve themselves, and some plots resolution is a letdown to the buildup. Until then, it will remain a great show to watch and follow.

Unfortunally, im lost like the title. I love the shoe i watche it, i tivo it, i have the season dvds and im still lost. I think thats y i love that show.
