Even when nowadays China is very popular and many people think that it will surpass the US as first economic power I dont see China becoming a cultural power for example..I think the US still is the center for trends in almost every part of cultura whether is music, clothes, pop music, movies..I mean yo get my point? ...still the biggest celebrirties in the world are americans, the Ipod is american isn´´t it? ..the biggest companies are americans, I dont see for instance everybody learning chinese instead of English......What do you think???

NOTE: there is no doubt that China will become a bigger economy and right now there is more growth and expecations for China , however I dont see China becoming a country like the US in the cultural or even political sense.....well maybe political but definetly not cultural......

China has the potential to become the biggest superpower ever but the country is so badly run that they haven't been able to capitalise on it yet. If they can sort themselves out, get a decent government, balance out the wealth divide then they will rule the world and we'll all be learning Manadarin in school.

China will not become a power like the U.S. because the U.S. upholds the best in what humanity can achieve. China currently displays the worst kind of system humans could live under. Its economy and power look impressive now, but so did the Soviet Union's before it collapsed and look at Russia now. As long as poeple see freedom and democracy as the world standard, China will never be accepted as a cultural superpower. Militarily, its another story. China does want hegemony and we are now seeing the beginnings of a new Cold War in the Pacific. America must meet the challenge now.

God Bless America!

China will probably never be the same culturally. It is becoming a super power and there is really no doubt about it. China basically is an old culture that is modernizing. How far this will go, only time will tell.

I tend to agree with you. America (and Europe) lead and the rest of the world follows, cuturally speaking.
And I am not convinced China will be a bigger market, maybe?
They have too many people and they are still communists. Though they seem to be a hybrid, part Communist, part Capitalist, but isn't that like oil and water?
China is taking shorcuts, and that will catch up to them. They have a terrible pollution problem. Improving that problem will cost them lots of money and profits. They are also fiddling with world currrencies, that can't go on forever.
Two cooks are fine in a kitchen. 3? 4? 5? They have so many people, that is going to be a big problem for them.
I see them self imploding honestly.

Communism is a hard culture to want to emulate. I think what makes America different is that, first of all, it's a melting pot of different cultures from around the world and, second, it's a country that embraces individuality and personal freedom. Therefore it is much easier for people to learn to "think out of the box." China's government wants to the individual to sacrifice their personal happiness and freedom for the good of the country. That never inspires creativity.
