she stayed bc she was not diffrenet and to have ran would have made her appear quilty

It's been quite a while since the last time I read the book. By memory, it's pretty obvious she was just plain stubborn and refused to be run off. I don't know if Hawthorne clearly says that, but it's pretty obvious.

Heck, that's what I would have done! So, I can understand it.

Remember later after her daughter is married, she returns again to live the rest of her life.

I believe she stayed because of her love. Also, she stayed because of her child.
