Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) --> MgCl2(aq) + H2(g)
and the other
Ca(OH)2 (aq) + CO2 (g) --> CaCO3 (s) + H2O (l)
so really, you wont have carbon dixode when u add the Mg into HCl because u get hydrogen gas.
