is it true that.... when you add additonal ram ( there is an old one and adding a new one on another slot ) you'll need to start all over again? ( reinstalling your OS, BIOS......all programs that was installed )..

No - where did you hear this complete load of BS? If you REPLACE your hard drive, you may have to do this, but certainly NOT replacing or upgrading RAM.

RAM is NOT Virtual Memory - RAM *IS* memory. But there are two types of memory - storage memory (usually disk based) and Random Access Memory (RAM). storage memory is like your bookshelf - it's where your programs are all stored when not in use. RAM is like your desk space - how much deskspace your programs have to work with is directly related to how much RAM you have. If you have more RAM, you have more deskspace - you can spread out, things don't get stacked on top of each other, and you can work faster because it's easier to work.

Not at all RAM is a form of virtual memory so nothing is actually stored on it while your computer is not running..so upgrading only inproves the function of your computer as doesnt by any means require you to reinstall anything such as BIOS or OS
