About 1 to 2% with *perfect* use. Up to 20% with imperfect use. If you take it at the exact same time everyday, without fail, you are a perfect user. If you don't, you're not and the worse you are the greater the chance of getting pregnant. Always use a back-up contraceptive method condoms & spermicide are a great choice.

How effective are BCPs in preventing pregnancy and STIs?
BCPs are 98% to 99% effective for women who take the pills every day as directed. Pill-taking mistakes decrease effectiveness. There are detailed instructions on late or missed pills under the section -- How do I start taking BCPs? BCPs do not offer any protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Usually about 1% according to most OCP manufacturers. If the pill is taken correctly it is almost impossible to get pregnant. Keywords here are CORRECTLY and ALMOST. There are cases of people getting preg while supposedly taking the pill, but timing counts and that is why the doctors tell you to take it at the same time everyday. If not the hormone level in the body starts decreasing and you can become preg. Hope this helps.

IF taken as directed.
Antibiotics have been known to reduce the effectiveness of the pill, and believe it or not, so has grapefruit and grapefruit juice.
