Walmart a few years ago was a one stop source for merchandise. Today you buy hardware at either Home Depot or Lowes. You purchase home furnishings at Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things. Need Electronics? Best Buy or Circuit City have vastly better selections than Wal-mart. As far as Office supplies you have Office Depot and Office Max. Wal-Mart is selling a large percentage of groceries but this is a very low profit category. With Gas High it is cheaper to go to a grocery store nearby for a few items even though they may be slightly higher in lieu of driving the longer distance to Wal-Mart, All these examples as well as many others continue to have an impact on Wal-marts bottom line and will continue to do so. In answer to your question the answer is not yet but they could be headed in that direction.

Kmart was never near the scope or number of stores walmart has come to be. Walmart is an 800 lb gorilla.
